  • Yes.
  • In compliance with recent changes made by the credit reporting agencies regarding medical debt, KCI will send a request for a full deletion of the negative item(s) from your trade line once they are settled or paid in full.
  • Any partial payments made on your account will also be reported to reflect an accurate balance for the account(s) you may have in collection

General Consumer FAQs

  • If you have received telephone calls or voice mail messages from a KCI representative, you may have an unpaid bill with a creditor with whom you have contracted for services in the past.
  • You may submit your request for no further calls in writing to Kansas Counselors, Inc. at the following address:

  • When submitting these requests in writing, please identify the specific telephone numbers you’re asking us to refrain from calling.
  • KCI also honors verbal requests for no further calls so you may also make your request known by speaking with your account representative.
  • NOTE:  KCI makes every effort to make our communications with you as pleasant and helpful as possible. Asking KCI to cease communication with you by phone will not stop further alternative collection efforts.
  • You may submit your request for no further communication whatsoever (often referred to as a Cease & Desist letter) in writing to Kansas Counselors, Inc.
  • NOTE: KCI makes every effort to make all communications with you as pleasant and helpful as possible.  Asking KCI to cease communication with you altogether will not stop further alternative collection efforts.
  • NOTE: Cease and Desist requests are valid for only accounts in our system on the date the Cease and Desist request is received.

Kansas Counselors, Inc. FAQs

  • KCI has been operating as a third-party debt collection agency since 1960.
  • KCI is an active member of the Association of Collection and Credit Professionals known as ACA International.
  • KCI is accredited with the Better Business Bureau and carries an A+ rating.
  • KCI is a member of both the Missouri and Kansas Collectors Associations.
  • KCI is registered with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
  • Kansas Counselors, Inc. (KCI) is a ‘third-party’ debt collection agency. This means that KCI has been hired by a creditor to recover outstanding charges on a past due account.
  • In all cases, KCI mails out an initial letter to any consumer referred by a creditor for collection. This letter provides the full name of the consumer, the name of the original creditor, the amount currently owed, an itemization of any credits or adjustments since the itemization date, and consumer disclosures required by federal law or any applicable state law.
  • KCI also makes attempts to communicate and resolve outstanding balances by telephone.
  • In many cases, depending upon the age of the account, or the type of creditor, KCI may furnish information about the unpaid debt to the credit reporting agencies.
  • In some cases, depending upon various factors, KCI may seek permission from the original creditor to forward a consumer’s unpaid account to an attorney for litigation.
  • KCI primarily collects medical debts. These debts may be from hospitals, physician’s offices, dentists, etc.
  • KCI also recovers monies for commercial creditors, city municipalities and utility companies.
  • No.
  • KCI contracts with creditors to recover their bad debt but does not purchase nor own the accounts.

Settlement Offers/Reduction Requests FAQs

  • A settlement offer, or reduction offer is an offer made by a consumer for less than the amount owed in order to fully resolve the account and reduce the balance to zero.
  • In most cases, the answer is Yes.
  • In most cases, KCI has been granted the authority by its creditor/clients to negotiate and approve settlement offers or reduction requests presented by consumers as long as they meet the requirements established by the creditor in question.
  • For settlement offers or reduction requests that exceed KCI’s authority, our agency will still present a reasonable offer to the creditor/client for possible approval, or a counteroffer.
  • Unfortunately, some creditor/clients will not approve settlement offers or reduction requests under any circumstances.
  • Contact a KCI account representative to learn more about the options available related to your account(s).
  • No.
  • However, all telephone negotiations are digitally recorded for your protection and KCI will honor any agreement we make with you.
  • In all cases, KCI will be happy to provide a Paid in Full receipt to you after the full completion of the transaction.
  • No.
  • Any settlement offer, or reduction request that is approved by KCI or the creditor/client you owe must be paid in a one-time lump sum.
  • Generally, an approved settlement offer, or reduction request must be resolved within thirty (30) days of the agreement.
  • Your KCI account representative can assist you with any desired exceptions.

There are a number of factors KCI, and its creditor/clients consider when determining an appropriate settlement offer of reduction request. These include but are not limited to:

  1. The age of the account.
  2. The consumer’s financial ability to repay the amount owed.
  3. The creditor/client’s settlement guidelines.
  4. Extenuating circumstances.
